Ich helfe Paul --> ich helfe Paul nicht[I'm helping Paul] --> [I'm helping Paul not]

Normally, to negate verbs, you just place "nicht" at the end of the sentence.

Klingt gut --> klingt nicht gut[Sounds good --> [sounds not good]

Das ist absurd --> das ist nicht absurd[That is absurd --> that is not absurd]

Normally, to negate adjectives or adverbs, you place "nicht" in front of them.
